What's needle phobia?

Needle phobia is a diagnosable mental health condition that causes people to be extremely fearful (and often avoidant) of medical procedures involving needles, like vaccinations, blood draws, and IV starts. Sometimes people with needle phobia avoid all medical care.

How common is it?

A recent study suggests that needle phobia may affect over a quarter of the population, and may be responsible for about 11% of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy.
